National Shipbuilding Strategy Scholarships  

Irving Shipbuilding has committed $100,000 to the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Education Foundation for scholarships for Cadets entering marine related programs. All applicants to the Foundation will be automatically considered for these scholarships if they are entering an eligible program.

 

Shipbuilding Careers

Currently, a team of over 1,900 shipbuilders are constructing Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ships (AOPS) and will soon start construction on 15 Canadian Surface Combatants for the Royal Canadian Navy. Over the next decades thousands more will be hired in a variety of roles.

  • Engineering: Electrical, Mechanical, Marine Systems, etc
  • Welding, Marine Fabrication & Pipefitting
  • Navigation Technology
  • Oceanography & Marine Biology
  • Maritime Studies

Irving Shipbuilding Inc., located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, was selected as Canada’s National Shipbuilder for combat ships as part of the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) in 2011. This commitment to long-term shipbuilding in Canada allows investments in building a strong, sustainable workforce.

In order to strengthen the Canadian marine industry as whole, Irving Shipbuilding is committed to investing 0.5% of the NSS contract revenue back into industry projects supporting workforce development, technology and commercialization under the NSS Value Proposition program.
